June Picnic

We gathered for our end of the year picnic...you can tell we are all getting older because we do not "rough it" in an outside picnic situation
instead we take Joan's offer of her community center at Woodcreek for our indoor picnic.
The two ladies to the left of Barb are Amy and Shelly who are OT's and have been advising Barb on the weighted blankets we have been making.  They said a very nice Thank You to the group and plans were made to make 25 more blankets for programs around the area.  They will provide the rice and help with the sewing at a date to be determined in August.  We need fabric for the outsides  the blankets which  are 30" by 30" and so a yard of elementary kid themed fabric will work.  Not too bright but a car, animal etc pattern is ok.  Belinda has already made many tubes and Nancy has given us backing fabric...what great members we have!! Stay tuned for a date to sew.
At the beginning of the year Tracey had members fill out a list of UFO projects and then the competition began to see who had the best luck finishing them.  Pat was the winner, finishing all 7 she put on the list, 100%  Marva was second with two of the 3 on hr list for 66%. Carol was third by finishing 18 of the 29 on her list for 62%.   Ruth was fourth by finishing 10 of the 23 on her list for 43%.   Every one who participated did a wonderful job!
Pat spare bedroom will have this beautiful quilt that is a Christmas pattern in blues!!
Claudia is in an embroidery club and did this towel with adorable owls.  I took two pictures and still did not get the lace on the bottom...sorry.
Carol made these two bright quilts and had many others to share...she could do her own blog with all the ufo's she finished.  A woman with a mission that is for sure.  Love the colors...great job Carol.
I could not straighted this photo so just turn your head...Sue used a panel and cut it up adding other material in between to make a stunning look.  Also a great border.
Vi brought this quilt she put together from a block of the month...Old maid's Block.  I know I made one, can't remember which, and it turned out fantastic.  It looks nothing like the block.
So here I am with the project from May...a table topper.  That was a fun one.
Here is Ruth with the same project and an extra block that she will use as a pillow.  We all commented as to the differences with the colors and the choices.  The same pattern can look so different with different colors.
Here is our sweet Joan with an adorable quilt made with her son Bob's block #2.  such a simple block using a 4 1/2" square and 2 1/2 " blocks and strips.  I think you can see it in the picture below.  So a thank you to Joan again for the use of her community room.  We had a great time together and so many inspiring quilts

So there are a few summer activities to remind you of...Strip parties June 23 and July 21 at Expresso Bay on south airport and garfield roads.  August date for weighted blanket sewing with the OT's who visited us.   Lots of fun planed for next year is already in the works so stay tuned and have a great time sewing this summer.   Kathy

May Quilters

Hello to all you Fellowship Quilters.
We had a fun meeting with a morning program by Tracey...hope we have some finished pictures at the June 9th picnic next week.
Barb is doing a great job with our newest charity project..the weighted blankets for the special needs kids at Oak Park School.  The blankets are made with long channels and the rice sleeves are put in the channels.  They can be removed for washing.  Her goal is to make some bigger blankets at an August get together.. more later on that.
Shawn is working on her UFO's and should be in the run for the most finished this year.  She also finished the slash picture that Della taught a few months ago...yea!

Vi also finished Dellas slash project...it is great how they all turn out so different!  What a creative group.  She also showed the very bright quilt below that is made from one of Bob's patterns.  Thanks to Joan for bringing him into our lives...talk about creative!

Donna has just retired and made some great pouches to give away...Congrads!
Claudia showed this jelly roll quilt in sweet colors
Pat made this patriotic quilt called Shootin Stars
Della made this quilt for the Kingsley School fundraiser....Wow!  She also made the one below for Barb to put in our closet and give to a deserving person or family.  Thanks so much.

Bobby has been gone for the winter but has been busy sewing and quilting as usual.  One baby quilt and the other beautiful ninepatch.

Ruth used her reds to make this heart quilt.  And below a baby quilt that is fantastic!  I love it.

Marva made this Cat in the Hat quilt for a great grandson...adorable.

What a bright quilt Bev made...love the colors.
Pat had lots to show but these two are stand outs...Love the sheep and hexagons.

Tracy and Jacky showed this very bright and busy quilt..Wow!!
Hope to see you all next week.   Kathy
