2016 Holidays for Fellowship Quilters

      Happy Holidays Quilters!
I have let the time fly by and procrastinated getting the blog together.  Today seemed like a good day to get it done with the lazy snow out my window and some well loved Christmas Carols playing. (even though xmas is over)
I hope you all had a blessed and happy Christmas and are looking forward to a joyous 2017.  The November Fellowship Meeting was such fun with everyone one enjoying the lighted tree project.  I made 6 this year and they were loved by those who were lucky to get one!!
I will be doing more for next year!

Lots of discussion about the trees and the sizes as well as how to light them.  We are so inventive as a group and always coming up with a new and better way to do something.
The Grand Traverse Baby Pantry was once again the chose for our Christmas charity.  We collected and made many baby and child items.  I made two baby receiving blankets.  It is a pattern we have made, the 10 minute receiving blanket, but it  has been changed a bit so I showed the changes.
Judy used her embroidery skills to make some adorable bibs

Ruth has been busy with some baby quilts.  Love the trucks!!

Our Christmas Holiday Party was at the TBA center and the delicious meal was made by the students.  Once again it was a wonderful meal and a great time for us to gather and celebrate the season as well as our own talents.  Sue showed this beautiful Santa quilt!  I had to take a close up of the cross stitched Santa's because they were outstanding.  What a treasure!

Ruth wowed us once again with her talents.  The picture does not show the detail of the tread painting but it is fantastic and really gives depth to the wall quilts.

Sharon said she went outside her box with this mini quilt.  It is so adorable and has so many tiny tiny pieces!!  Great job and we look forward to many more!!??

Belinda did a wonderful job with this quilt called pickles and ice cream.  It has over 3,000 pieces!!!  She made it for a friends daughter...lucky girl
Jackie made this Saints quilt for her grandson...we are sure he will love it.  Judy made the striking table runner below.  Gray is such a great color to use with so many other colors or just by itself.

Judy and her committee made gifts that were raffled off by a drawing to help us celebrate our passion of sewing.
All the gifts were unique like the one  that Ruth won...a triangle zippered bag.
Also Pat won two adorable zipper bags that really pop!!   We got a few ideas for projects for next year,
I hope the end of 2016 finds all of you well and looking forward to a joyous 2017.  I know we have some great programs coming up in the next few months.   So stay warm and snug in your sewing rooms.  Or for those of you in the warmer weather..use your sunscreen!   Kathy

October Fun

Greetings Quilters.
It has been a fantastic fall with all the beautiful colors. I just love the fall.
We had a great crowd at the October meeting and had a fun program.  Pat showed us how to thread paint!  It is a wonderful way to  add shadowing and dimension to your project.  The pumpkin to the right is a great example.  The group below were enthusiastic participants.
I can't wait to see what all you talented sewers bring as  your thread painting projects next month.  Ruth led the meeting and reminded us to wear our name tags to help us all know each other, especially the new members.  She also had some fun with us asking a variety of members questions about their quilting.  Once again to get to know each other better.
Judy, our money keeper, let us know that the church is not longer going to be our "bank".  She is searching for a real  bank to   have our money and will get back to us on her findings.  We have $537.40.  Several prayer requests for family members and for our own member Sue.

We got directions for the lighted Christmas trees project for next month.  They use fairy lights!
Dianne put on her witches hat and gave us a history of Halloween...the religious and non religious history.  Very interesting and a new perspective on All Hallows Eve.
Barb talked about our charity quilts and the work bee made 13 heart pillows that were taken to Munson.  She also showed this able runner and matching place mats...all ready for the holiday season.

Pat showed this adorable little quilt that she personalized with her husband, dog and camper.

Pat has been working on this adorable small quilt.  Great job Pat.
'
Sharon showed this adorable cat made with 100 white yo yo's.  It is so  unique!
Sue is gearing up for craft fairs this fall..so cute.
Donna finished this quilt for her daughter.  It is called Farm Girl and she personalized it for her daughter who lives on a farm.  It is really beautiful! Lucky daughter.
Della showed several quilts...all of them large.  She has been using up material and they are spectacular!!
Sharon  showed this one block wonder.  These quilts are so  fantastic.  The fabric is to the left and the quilt blocks are all different.    All I can say is wow!
Ruth made this wall hanging unique using a process called rusting.  She drew on the pattern and then used a rusty nail wrapped in the fabric to get the rusty coloring.  The rustic look is completed with a branch as a hanger for the quilt.
The quilt above was from the closet and no one is sure where it came from.  Lynn had to add to the backing to make it fit and added more quilting.  Does anyone recognize it?  Barb said it just appeared in the closet.  It turned out really beautiful.
Tracy made another veterans quilt and will make a deserving guy very happy.
Connie showed the wool pumpkin above.  Very striking and the quilt below, not wool, so we would know that she does do sewing that is not wool. both .beautiful!
Kate brought this beautiful "redwork' Halloween quilt that is embroidered in black.  The detail is so great and the picture does not do justice to it!
Our Christmas party is planned for Wednesday December 14th at the TBA tech center.  Lunch done by the students for a price of $13.  Judy sent an email with the menu. They do such a great job and it is a fun afternoon.  Bring your money next month or give it to a friend if you cannot be there to make your reservation.

September 2016

Greetings Quilters.  We had a great meeting last week with lots of members present and some new quilters joining our group.
The beautiful pumpkins below are the examples of the program for next month presented by Pat and titled Thread Painting.  I will be sending out the directions in an email.
Barb has worked hard to spread the quilts we have created  and put them into deserving hands.
23 to Munson, 14 to Father Fred Foundation, 7 to Hospice, 7 to Hospice and 7 to the new Oncology unit at Munson.
She read several thank you notes.  Great job ladies.

The beautiful quilt made by Donna above is a Jane Austin Quilts.  All flowers of an English garden and a crane in the center.  Linda is back with us which makes us very glad and she brought several of her many quilts.
The 4 patch poesy below is beautiful and the fabric used is the border fabric.  It is a really wonderful pattern that never ceases to surprise with how different the blocks turn out.
Bobbie brought several quilts to show that she quilted herself.  They are beautiful!!
Joan is always making something for someone else and this month  she showed us the baby bibs for her grandchildren...very cute.

Phyllis showed this wonderful wall hanging done with thread painting.  She took a class in Tahoe with her daughter and spent many hours creating this wonderful piece!! The picture does not do this justice...it is spectacular.
Barb told us a great story about the T shirt quilt below that she made for a friend of her daughter in law.  It really turned out fantastic!!
Karen made this beautiful wall quilt in a class.  The fabrics are  cut out like a paper snowflake and then layered. It is a no sew applique.   Really different.  I have lost the picture of the whole quilt...sorry!
Ruth made several baby quilts for our charities and finished some UFO's from her stash. Yea Ruth!!

Marva has been busy with quilts and pillowcases.  She has made quilts for her church's Bundles of Love layettes.  She has also made a quilt for her 6th great grandchild due soon!!

Connie showed a row by row that she customized for her and her husbands own cabin.  So cute!  The quilt below is cotton backing with wool applique.  It is just fantastic and must of taken many many hours of love to create.  She is taking it to a friend who will quilt it.  The picture below is a close up of one of the blocks.

Ruth showed this lap quilt that I helped her make with fabric given to us by the family of a former member who is also a Ruth.  We plan on doing a raffle fundraiser (for a different group) when it is quilted.  It was an easy and fun block to make and let us use many of Ruth's blue fabrics.
Sue showed us "Him"  The quilt she made for her husband who graduated from Youngstown State University.  I guess it was a long time in the making and is very cute.

I look forward to seeing every one in October.   Kathy
